FAQ

What is MASSTRPLAN researching?

MASSTRPLAN is researching potentially damaging compounds that attack molecules in the human body, by adding oxygen atoms (referred to as oxidation). The products of oxidation are linked to multiple inflammatory diseases. For example, an increased the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney disease. MASSTRPLAN will try to identify the mechanisms behind the creation of the damaging compounds, detect these compounds and investigate their effects. Please see our project description page for non-specialists and specialists for more information. Please see our project description page for non-specialists and specialists for more information. In addition, there is a  video that provides an overview of the project.

What analytical techniques are being used?

The analytical techniques used to study oxidation products (potentially damaging compounds) is mainly mass spectrometry. In mass spectrometry the mass of a compound is measured that can lead to the identification and quantification of a specific compound. Additional techniques involve antibodies, microscopy and flow cytometry. These various techniques are used to identify the mechanisms behind the creation of the damaging compounds, detect these compounds and investigate their effects. Please see our project description page for non-specialists and specialists for more information.

Who is part of MASSTRPLAN?

MASSTRPLAN is a European Network Project training 14 young researchers in 6 different countries. There are 6 academic beneficiaries, 2 hospital beneficiaries and 2 commercial beneficiaries, collaborating with 15 partners. Please see our people and involved partner page for more information.

Where can I find more information about MASSTRPLAN?

There is a non-specialist and specialist page available with the description about the project.

Are there scientific outreach events?

Yes, the project organizes multiple events that are open to researchers outside and within the project. For all events please see the events page.

Are there general public outreach events?

Yes, these are planned for 2018, please check the website nearer the time.
